Rebuilding An MtG Memory

No matter how old you get, you always remember the past and look fondly back at memories. In the world of Magic the Gathering it takes the form of old cards you used to enjoy and old decks you used to use. Coming back to MtG I missed some of my old cards so I decided to fix that problem by hunting them down and bringing them back into my new collection.

Getting Into Golgari

After deciding to get back into Magic the Gathering in 2018 after nearly an 18 year gap meant I missed quite a lot. One of the many, many things I missed was the introduction and dominance of the guilds. Something I came face to face with when Guilds of Ravnica was announced. It was high time to jump in and go for a guild, the guild in question was………GOLGARI.

Love A Good Ol Stomp

The love of a mono green deck has never left me. Its always been my go to choice when it comes to having fun. Its the kind of deck build that I consider to be clean and fun to use as well as being pretty effective during a lot of games. This is why when I decided to make a deck that would be able to hold it’s own at gaming events like Friday Night Magic and Standard Showdowns, I had to go with my gut and build a mono green deck.

My First ‘Net-Deck’

Something that I noticed quickly upon my return to the world of Magic the Gathering was the sheer amount of people sharing their deck builds and people using deck builds created by other players. Later finding out this was called Net-Decking, I could see both the advantages and disadvantages of this but saw it as just one of those parts of the game that can’t be changed. The internet is everywhere (Obviously otherwise you wouldn’t be here reading this) and the urge to show off deck builds is there in anyone who has a build they are proud of as well as anyone that wants a leg up on the competition with a deck that has a good winning record.

A Personal Favorite – Killer Bees

Everyone has to admit that no matter how long they have been playing, no matter what style of gameplay they enjoy, no matter what mana combinations or archetypes they build, there’s one card that they love. There’s always one card that reminds you of an amazing match or a fun deck build or sometimes its purely for the artwork that’s on one of the cards.

A New Beginning

Welcome to my new place where I can talk about Magic the Gathering and my ever growing obsession with the world of spell-casting. I thought it best to begin this new place with a little background about my time with MTG.

As an old man of 38, I was around back in the beginning. Way back in the old days when Planeswalkers weren’t even a twinkling in WotC eye and mana burn was a real concern. A Black Lotus was revered but not worshiped and a game of Magic the Gathering was just that, a game. No choosing between ‘Standard’ or ‘Modern’ or ‘Commander’ or other forms of play, just a plain and simple game of MTG. It was a much simpler time.
